Fisherville is centered along Taylorsville and Finchville Roads. Part of the city resides in the Louisville Metro area (Jefferson County) while the rest falls in Spencer County.
Fisherville was originally known as Curreys after Edward Currey, who opened a post office in 1833. In 1847 the city was renamed after Robert Fisher who had operated a mill in the area.
During the late 19th century and the early 20th century Fisherville became more commercial. Due to the opening of railroad tracks Fisherville had also become a tourist destination because of the mineral water well in the area. In 1914 Fisherville started to become primarily residential after the mineral water well ran dry.
